Cooking Round the World Summer Camps 2020
Summer Camp Notification
Due to the Corona Virus Cooking Round the World’s Summer Camp program has been modified. Several sites originally scheduled to hold summer camp are no longer available. Others may be re-opening. That determination is slowly being unfolded. Please check back with us on a daily basis as new camps may become available; other camp locations may be removed from the web site as they no longer be available.
With safety and health precautions in mind, the new paradigm for Cooking Round the World summer camp is below. If you sign your child up for summer camp, please be advised of the guidelines below.
- Camp weeks are June 15 – Aug 14 only
- Summer camp will be limited to 12 children each week.
- There will be one teacher and an assistant.
- All children are required to come to camp wearing gloves and a mask.
- The teaching staff will wear a mask and gloves as well.
- During education and eating time, children will sit 6 feet apart from each other.
- Camp day hours are 9 am – 4 pm. There is no pre-care or aftercare
- There is no half day camp this summer
Cooking Round the World camp immerses a child in a cooking and cultural exploration. Each Cooking Round the World camp day we cook and eat from multiple recipes, read a folktale, play an international/national game, observe a cooking demonstration, and learn to think critically about the foods we just cooked. Fun and yum!
Below are the themes:
Harry Potter: Taste the Magic!: From butterbeer pancakes to double double chocolate cauldron cake , campers will enjoy Hogwarts culinary delights!
A Dish of Disney: Campers will cook, eat and have fun with Disney characters and movies: Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Matilda, Lady and the Tramp…. More! The day includes trivia games, Disney charades, and a Disney story.
A Plate of Pixar: Children will enjoy a different favorite Pixar movie AND the foods mentioned in films like Ratatouille, Toy Story, Monsters Inc, and others! Kids learn awesome cooking skills through daily demos, experiment with kitchen tools. Other activities include Pixar themed games, slide shows and stories.
Celebrity Chefs: TV Network Celebrity chefs like Bobby Flay, Rachel Ray, Gordon Ramsey, Giada DeLaurentiis, and Ree Drummond all have their signature dishes. We will recreate those dishes and learn how these TV chefs became stars!
Pizza Mania: If your child is a pizza hound, this is the week for them! Pizza’s Round the World, at least 2 different pizzas each day! Form Indian Naan bread pizza to French Benedict Pizza, to German berry dessert pizza…. Children will learn to make… and love to eat a variety of pizzas. There will be additional side dishes.
International Celebrations: Specialty foods and celebration practices at International Festivals: Thai Songkran Festival, Brazilian Carnival, Italy’s Feast of San Gennaro, Philippines Pahiyas Festival and German Oktoberfest.
Regions of China: Each Chinese region has its own unique set of recipes including different spices. Campers will explore the various cooking styles and offerings from these regions: Sichuan, Taiwan, Hunan, Shandong and Guangdong (Cantonese).
Regions of Italy: Each Italian regions has its own specialties. We will “visit” Campania. Emilia-Romangna, Toscana, Abruzzo, and Venetto and cook and eat dishes each region is known for. Pizzas, pasta, salads, veggies and desserts. Delizioso!
Cooking Round the USA: Campers will visit a different US state each day, learn about what that state is distinctly known for, and eat delicious foods associated with from that state.
Star Wars: May the Fork Be with you! Campers will visit the dark side and the light side of the galaxy with imaginative food creations from Star Wars characters like Chewbacca, BB8, R2D2, Princess Leia, Yoda and many others.
Super Recipes from Super Heroes! From Spiderman pretzel webs, to Thor cupcakes, to Wolverine burgers, to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle pizza your child will have a “Marvel”-ous time exploring the world of super heroes!
